FROME’s third Kindness Festival will take place from 16th to 22nd March, bringing people together in fun, magical and uplifting ways to celebrate the contribution that kindness makes to our relationships, mental and physical health and our local community.
The theme of this year’s festival is Kindness Builds Bridges and the aim of the festival’s founders, The Good Heart – Frome’s community centre of kindness – is to fill the town with warm-hearted activities for children, families and residents of all ages.
Past events have included school programmes, street music and theatre, family art workshops, films, clothes swaps, tree planting, a Kindness Flashmob and the annual Frome Kindness Lecture.
“We are now in the full swing of organising a brilliant and inspiring festival and would welcome some extra help,” said Gemma Annan, the festival coordinator. “Are you looking for something fun and meaningful to carry you through the winter months? We have a variety of volunteer roles available, such as staffing festival events, helping to distribute posters, or joining our Kindness Makers group – knitting, sewing and making gifts.
“We’re also looking for a few people willing to run festival projects such as our annual collaboration with the food bank, a Kindness Trail through the town and our new Stories of Kindness creative writing project. What we can achieve will depend on who steps forward to help. Everyone is welcome, whatever their talents, interests or availability.”
There will be a welcome meeting on Sunday 28th January from 2.30pm to 3.30pm at The Good Heart in Palmer Street, where you can find out more over a cup of tea and piece of cake.
The Good Heart will also be hosting Sunday afternoon get-togethers for Kindness Makers on 4th and 18th February and 3rd March, from 2.30pm to 5pm. Please email Gemma if you plan to come along on gemma@thegood heart.gmail.com or simply turn up on the day.
The full Kindness Festival programme will be available from Wednesday 14th February; you can find out more and sign up for alerts at www.thegoodheart.uk.
“Thanks to a generous donor, everything will be free of charge or by donation,” says director of The Good Heart, Alison Murdoch.
