Frome Leisure Centre has said it is taking steps to address issues raised by residents about the cleanliness and reliability of the facilities.
Residents have been complaining about the centre for several months citing a lack of heating, issues with shower and gym equipment, poor hygiene, inadequate lighting on the sports pitches and the recent closure of the swimming pool due to a broken boiler.
Somerset Council leases the building, located on Princess Anne Road, to Fusion Leisure, a national lifestyle organisation.
Following growing frustration among the community, MP Anna Sabine recently organised a meeting between Somerset councillor for Frome Adam Boyden, Somerset Council and senior managers from Fusion who have committed to making changes.
The changes include improved cleanliness measures already underway to address previous concerns; repairs to the pool, which have now been completed; planned investment in the gym and to ensure the floodlights are working by autumn when they will be needed.
MP Anna Sabine said, “The issues at Fusion Leisure Centre have been raised with me repeatedly over recent months and I’m determined to ensure residents’ concerns are taken seriously. Fusion managers have assured me that steps are being taken to address the problems, including the appointment of a new manager and that improvements are on the way. This is a welcome development, but I’ll be keeping a close eye to make sure those promises translates into real, lasting change.
“Fusion is a vital facility for our town and it’s essential that it delivers the quality and consistency our community deserves.”
