FROME Sport & Fitness leisure centre will reopen next week on Monday 10th August.
Management company Fusion Lifestyle has announced that the gym along with group exercise will resume – but currently there is no date for when other facilities will return, including the swimming pool.
Sessions must be pre-booked online or via the Fusion Lifestyle app to ensure that the centre has no more than the permitted number of users.
Fusion Lifestyle has also introduced a number of cleaning and social distancing procedures to keep staff and customers safe and prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Fusion Lifestyle said, “Gym equipment will be spaced out and different areas of the centre may be used to provide additional space.
“Some group exercise classes may be moved to larger areas or outside (weather permitting) to ensure everyone has plenty of personal space. Please respect the personal space of all other users and staff.
“Everyone is responsible for cleanliness and we will provide ample cleaning materials. It is essential that all users clean all kit, including exercise mats, before and after use. Please bring your own exercise mat if you have one.
“Feel free to use your own hand sanitiser, but it will be available within the centre at reception, the gym and in group exercise locations. Masks are not compulsory, but by all means wear one if you wish.”
Frome Sport & Fitness has been closed for almost five months. Indoor gyms, sports facilities and pools were given the go-ahead by the government to reopen on 25th July – but until last week, members were unaware when they would be able to return.
Whilst members waited for news, Mendip District Council, who awarded the long-term lease to Fusion Lifestyle to manage the centre, explained that they had no say as to when the centre would reopen and what facilities would return.
A spokesperson for Mendip District Council said, “Mendip District Council have supported Fusion Lifestyle throughout the lockdown and continue to do so where they can at this time. Fusion Lifestyle manage and are the long-term lease holders of their leisure premises and swimming pools and as such the decision on when premises will safely re-open is theirs to make. Mendip District Council is not part of this decision making process.”
