LEISURE classes will soon be a regular part of Frome life again as Frome Community Education prepares its new programme for September.
With offerings in exercise, languages, arts and crafts as well as literature and local history, they are already planning for a busy autumn.
Students who have been having to do their classes online, or not at all, for the last year will finally be able to meet face to face in local venues. Margaret Binney, who has been attending an online writing course comments, “I can’t wait to get back into a room with other students and be able to share ideas and stories in person again.”
Frome Community Education, which is a social enterprise, is celebrating its tenth birthday this year and has its own fully equipped pottery based at Frome College. With expert tutors and first class facilities, small classes have been running there since the school opened in April and there will be additional workshops on offer in the summer.
Malcolm Lloyd, organiser of the pottery, is very proud of the facility, ‘ “We have updated all the equipment since we took over, including two new kilns, we’re very lucky to have such a great teaching space, but we have been very careful during the Covid-19 crisis and have taken every precaution to keep our students safe.”
Programme manager sought
Having been run by a small group of volunteers for the last ten years FCE is now looking for a paid programme manager to organise the schedule. They are looking for someone with good IT and people skills to keep the busy programme running smoothly. They will need to liaise with the tutors, book rooms and put the programme together each term as well as dealing with publicity and keeping an eye on the website.
FCE chair Sandy Usher adds, “The nature of the work means that you can manage it in your own time to suit you and we don’t anticipate that it will involve more than 4 hours a week on average over the year.”
Anyone interested in applying for the post should send a CV with covering letter to info@frome commed.org.uk.
The autumn brochure will be available at the end of July and more information is available at www.fromecommed.org.uk
