A group supporting Frome’s library has marked its first anniversary.
Friends of Frome Library (FOFL), a Community Interest Company (CIC), was set up last year by volunteers and library users to fundraise and advocate for the much-loved public space.
Chairperson Kerry Meech said the group has had a busy winter. “We’ve been fundraising and chatting with librarians about their wish lists for this year. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve been able to secure much-needed replacement equipment, including a safe and secure Lego storage unit for the popular Lego club and replacement props for the free, librarian-led Toddler Time and Baby Boogie sessions,” she said.
“We’ve also had the support of Palmer Street Bottle, which hosts our quizzes. We only originally intended to do a one-off Halloween quiz, but we had so much fun that we’re now planning our third quiz with them.”
The group has special events planned for children.
“For World Book Day on Thursday 5th March, from 3.30pm until close, children and their adults are invited to come along in costume for a sweet treat courtesy of Parsons and a natter about their favourite books,” she said.
A new FOFL website will also launch this month at www.friendsoffromelibrary.org. It will feature an events page, a blog showcasing the library’s services and activities, and details on how to support FOFL or donate to its causes.
The Friends’ next quiz night is on Thursday 19th February, from 8pm. Anyone wishing to reserve a table can email friendsoffromelibrary@gmail.com.
