The Lions Club of Frome are pleased to have been able to support a new initiative at supporting young people.
Project Refresh representative Lesley Hooper explained, “Frome Refresh project has been launched, to provide toiletries and sanitary protection to vulnerable young people from disadvantaged local families. We partner with Frome College and Oakfield and Selwood Academies to make these essential supplies available.
“Toiletries etc are not top of the shopping list when it’s a struggle to feed the family. The problem isn’t a new one but our response to it, as we are more aware, has been to try and address the issue
“The feedback from students is so positive. They feel better about themselves, look better and that affects how they behave, learn and interact. There are not many projects like this across the country. A group of us who live in Frome, decided to launch it locally and help support young people in the community.
“Shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, flannels, brushes and combs, plus sanitary products, go into our free packs. Toothpaste and toothbrushes are sponsored by Portway Dental Practice.
“There is a permanent collection box at Frome Town Hall, at the main reception. Unwanted Christmas and birthday toiletries are welcome too – we like to pack in extra treats when we have them.
“We are indebted to the generous support of the Frome Lions, to the tune of £500. This will enable us to provide regular top ups to the recipients. Thank you for helping us to help young people in Frome refresh their lives.”
