AFTER two aborted attempts due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, the Frome Lions finally got to hold their annual charity golf day.
The event raised £4,200 for Brain Tumour Research.
The club reports, “For the first time in its history the event was held at The Mendip Golf Club in Gurney Slade on the 28th July. 22 teams consisting of four players took part with the first teams teeing off at the first and tenth holes at 8am.
“The chosen charity for the day was Brain Tumour Research – Lions Clubs International (MD105) British Isles is working in partnership with Brain Tumour Research to raise £1 million over four years to help fund game-changing research and raise awareness of the impact of brain tumours.
“Brain Tumour Research is dedicated to raising funds for continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours. It supports one of the UK’s largest collaborative groups of laboratory-based scientists.
“Despite some horrendous showers during the day and a half hour pause for thunder and lightning, all of the teams completed their rounds
“The overall winners were the team from Cooper & Tanner with 111 points.
“Other prize winners were the highest team Score Holes 1-9 – Western Building Consultants with 60 points. Highest team score Holes 10-18 – Pearson May with 53 points; and highest team score, hole 7 – Butlers’ Boys with 11 points on countback.
“The winners were presented with their prizes by a representative from the Brain Tumour Trust who was ably assisted by Lion Fran Stary the Lions Multiple District Brain Tumour Research Lead.
“The Lions would like to thank the Mendip Golf Club manager Stuart Disney and his staff along with overall sponsor Chase de Vere and competition sponsors Rogers & Co, The Royce Clinic Ltd, Dave Lucey Ltd, SPW Mechanical, CW Accountancy & Penleigh Butchers for their generous support which has helped the Lions to raise the magnificent sum of £4,200 for the charity.”
