FROME Lions held a presentation evening last month to celebrate and award the participants of this year’s sponsored swim, which raised £7,800.
Half of the money raised will be divided between charities chosen by the participating swimming teams. The other half will go to the Lions’ charity fund, with £2,500 donated to Critchill School.
Mike Geake of the Frome Lions said, “This year the Lions’ chosen charity is Critchill School in Frome. In 2015 the school began running the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The money donated by the Lions will be used to enrol pupils on the scheme and to support them with the costs of taking part. The awards are highly regarded by potential employers and colleges.
“The Lions are indebted to Aggregate Industries who once again generously sponsored the event, which covered the cost of pool hire and sundry expenses, which meant that all monies raised by the event went to charity.”
The successful teams at the presentation evening were as follows:• John Barrow Cup (Best performing school chosen by Lion President) – Critchill School • Team under 11 completing most laps – FSC Fabulous Fromies (61 laps) • Gerald Williams Shield (Most sponsorship by organisation with more than one team) – Frome Swimming Club (£2,735) • The team raising most sponsorship – The Flyers (FSC) • The team completing the most laps (non-swimming club) – NVB Adults (59 laps) • The Aggregate Industries Cup (team completing the most laps) – Marvellous Masters 2 (85 laps).
