Members of Frome Lions club gathered recently at Victoria Park in Frome to make a special presentation to the Mayor of Frome Councillor Sheila Gore.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lions Club of Frome and the centenary of Lions Clubs International the members decided that they would like to do something special for the town in recognition of this unique achievement by the club. Over the past eighteen months the Lions have embarked on some additional fund raising activities to make this possible.
Following some discussion it was decided that an appropriate project would be to enhance the new play area being created for young children and their parents by Frome town council in Victoria Park.
The park has long been a part of Lions history as the club has held its annual fete there for numerous years and generations of the town residents have rode on the Lions train during that time. The late Lion Roger Windley was instrumental in overseeing the project for the Lions and in conjunction with Chris Stringer from Frome town council saw it reach fruition when it was officially opened by the outgoing mayor at this years Fete in June. Sadly Lion Roger passed away a week later.
