FROME Lions and Frome Rotary clubs have thanked Frome for its generosity after raising a combined total of £10,000 over the festive period.
Each year, the groups arrange for Father Christmas to take a route through Frome and donations are collected in various locations around the town.
The money raised will be divided between the Lions and Rotary charity accounts to assist needy groups and individuals in the local area.
In a joint statement, the president of Frome Lions Club, Chris Bailey Green, and the president of Frome Rotary Club, Humphrey Barnes, said the amount surpassed last year’s total and surprised and delighted all that were involved.
They said, “We would like to take the opportunity to say a very big thank you to the people of Frome and surrounding villages for their generous support of the pre-Christmas Santa tours.”
The clubs wish to extend their grateful thanks to all those who helped make the whole thing possible, in particular Santa’s drivers Mike Bishop, Jason Pritchard and Derek Morgan and all the marshals provided by Frome Carnival Club. They also thanked Asda and Sainsbury’s for their support in allowing the clubs to collect outside their stores.
