FROME has had an amazing season of grassroots football – with Frome Collegians AFC and Mells & Vobster FC, both seeing teams promoted!
Frome Collegians First team play in the Premier Division of the Wiltshire Senior League and finished a very respectable 8th in the table, which features some big Wiltshire clubs.
Frome Collegians Reserves and Mells & Vobster FC played in the First Division of the Mid-Somerset League, with some very competitive matches played between the two sides, which saw Mells become the league winners and Frome Collegians finishing in second place. This secures both teams promotion to the Premier Division of the Mid-Somerset League in 2022/23.
Mells also had a fantastic season in the cup competitions, winning both the League Cup and the Somerset Intermediate Cup, the latter seeing them face tough competition against the best of Somerset including Bridgwater Wolves, who put Mells under immense pressure in the semi-finals, but saw Mells run out 3-2 winners. The final saw them face Staplegrove FC where they won 3-1.
Frome Collegians Reserves also had a successful run to the final of the Paulton Hospital Cup but saw them lose to an in-form Coleford Athletic team, who both Collegians Reserves and Mells will join in the Premier Division next season.
Both clubs recently held their presentation evenings at Frome Cricket Club, where the following awards were presented:
Frome Collegians First Team: Manager’s Player award went to Ross Knapton, Player’s Player went to Ross Knapton, and Clubman went to Pete Weston.
