LOCAL Frome based artist, Cameron Scott, recently won two awards at the Galleria Moderna exhibition at the Castle Fine Art Gallery in Oxford. Cameron picked up the awards for his creative wood carvings and will be presenting these to the public during the Frome Open Art Trail in July.
One of the awards came from renowned sculptor John Doubleday who picked out one of Cameron’s pieces for a special award that was presented by the Lord Mayor of Oxford, cllr Mark Lygo.
Speaking on his awards, Cameron said, “My relief carvings are not very mainstream, and many galleries won’t show them – so having two pieces accepted and then winning two awards make all my hard work worthwhile.
“It can be quite difficult for artists who work on their own most of the time to always know how well or otherwise they are doing, so these types of awards justify what you are creating and keeps you going.”
Galeria Moderna is an online gallery that donates 20% of its commission from the sales of the exhibition artworks to two chosen charities – Arts 4 Dementia and Clear Sky Children’s Charity.
The work from the exhibition will be online on Galleria Moderna’s website however if you want to see Cameron’s carvings, he will be exhibiting at 60 Keyford during the Frome Open Art Trail from Friday 1st July to Sunday 10th July at the same time as the Frome Festival.
Cameron will also be showing his work in a solo show at the Town Hall Art Centre, Trowbridge in September, which was his prize for winning the Trowbridge Town Hall Open Art Exhibition last January.
