The quirky gift shop, Figgins, in the centre of Frome in King’s Street, has opened its second room as a gallery displaying works by local artists and photographers.
Sarah and Robert Williams, the owners, have lived in Frome since 2008 and moved into the shop in November 2014 after searching for the right premises for a long time. They say that King Street is the perfect location for their brand of eclectic gifts and cards.
The three artists on view at the moment are:
Martin Bray was born and brought up in Frome. Both his parents taught in Frome and his father was instrumental in saving the Rook Lane Chapel, as a member of the Frome Civic Society. Although now a teacher his other passions are photography and music. His photographs show some of the less well-known and unusual places in Frome, as well as some iconic shots. These can be purchased framed or unframed.
Simon Ball has worked in America for 18 years and has returned to the area this year because he loves the ‘Englishness’ of Frome and the surrounding area. He can be found at http://www.simonballdigital .com. He also works at Slimbridge, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, as their official photographer. His original prints include a variety of quirky subjects that fit in well with the gallery’s ethos.
The third artist is Fiona Gilbert, also brought up in Somerset. She has produced a range of clever, imaginative and hand crafted wall art. These prints can be customised and personalised. Fiona has just started out bringing her creations to life and Figgins is proud to be the first outlet to show her unique works. Her website can be found at bellaboho.co.uk
