LOCAL band Azhaar & Global Wave will be releasing the debut album ‘Original Love’ at The Cornerhouse in Frome on Friday 4th May.
Azhaar Saffar is a violinist/singer-songwriter of Iraqi/Welsh origins who gained recognition with internationally acclaimed Brazilian jazz group Sirius B, in the mid 2000s.
She has worked with some of the crème of British jazz; Jason Rebello, Ian Ballamy, Gareth Lockrane whose magic flute appears on the new album and latin jazz DJ/Congeiro who produced the title track, ‘Original Love’
After living on the outskirts of Frome for many years, where Sirius B recorded their five albums, her life transformed dramatically with the break-up of her long-time partner, and their band reaching a natural conclusion.
So, as a self confessed nomad she disappeared into the jungles and oceans of Latin America for a few years. She recently emerged with the songs for the new album inspired by her amazing journeys and formed the group, Global Wave.
Joined by this international line up, she takes us on a voyage that redefines the musical boundaries; a vibrant, irreverent fusion of world rhythms, funk and jazz enhanced by Azhaar’s glorious violin.
It is free entry to the launch party on Friday 4th May at the Cornerhouse at 8pm until 11pm.
