BUILDERS merchant, Tipadel Ltd, has announced that after decades of trading, the business is being sold to another local company.
Tool hire centre, Sydenhams, will take over the running of Tipadel Ltd from early April.
Since 1982, Tipadel Ltd has been regarded as the largest independent supplier of building and construction materials in the local area.
Before moving to the trading estate on Handlemaker Road in 1982, managing director, Tim Painter, began building the foundations of the business trading as White Tipadel from a local pig farm, manufacturing buildings and equipment for the breeding and production of pigs
Tim said that after 40 years of running the business, now is the time for him to ‘enjoy the fruits of his labours’.
“I was thinking of consulting a thesaurus to find the most appropriate words to help me make this announcement,” said Tim. “There are many that would adequately describe my thoughts after running a business for over 40 years. From very humble beginnings of working on a local farm in a chicken house, making pig farming buildings and equipment, through the many years to end with the success of Tipadel today as a builders’ merchant.
“Throughout this time, I have so much enjoyed building my business, my association with so many customers from all walks of life, from the many with agricultural connections to all of our local builders, and not forgetting our big contingent of loyal DIY and retail customers.
“You may be aware that I personally suffered a serious health problem just over three years ago, and although I have recovered back to reasonable fitness, I find that my age is telling on me and that my strength and energy have deteriorated. After long and serious thought, I consider that the time has now come for me to enjoy the fruits of my labours.
“It is therefore of great pleasure that I can announce that I have found an ideal buyer and successor for Tipadel and have agreed the sale of the business to Sydenhams Ltd.
“Many of you will be familiar with the name of Sydenhams, who already run a successful tool hire business just a few hundred yards from our premises, and of their most local builders merchant branch at Warminster.
“Sydenhams are historically a family business with a strong multi branch influence in the South and West, not only as a builders merchant and timber merchant, but with many recent acquisitions connected with the construction industry.
“With this very worthy successor at the helm, who will take over the running of the business from early April, I can reassure you that the same exemplary service and commitment to our customers will be maintained, especially with the very same familiar staff from Tipadel who have the training, knowledge and commitment that has been our pledge to you over the years.
“It just remains for me to sincerely thank all of my many customers over the long years, and hope that you will continue trading with Sydenhams for many years to come. Similarly, I would like to thank all my staff for their loyalty and commitment and hope that they continue to enjoy working here for many years to come.”
