LOCAL MP, David Warburton, has welcomed news that the Parliamentary investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and cocaine use has begun.

The MP was suspended from the Conservative Party in April following the allegations.
In a statement released last week, the MP said, “For the past twelve weeks I have faced accusations which I have – as yet – been unable to address due to the strict confidentiality terms which are explicitly required during any such investigation process. Until two weeks ago, I had not even been officially informed what the accusations were or who had made them.
“It has been immensely difficult not to speak out, but I have steadfastly adhered to the very strict rules of confidentiality and will continue to do so until the investigation concludes. Then, I will have much to say. I must say that I’m delighted that – finally – the investigation is under way.
“While the investigation takes place, I have had the whip removed, which means that I am technically an ‘independent’ MP and was unable therefore to take part in the recent confidence vote on the Prime Minister. I hugely look forward to resuming my place on the Conservative benches and, in the meantime, continue to work every day for the people of Somerton & Frome, both here in Somerset and in Westminster.”
The local MP remains under investigation by the Parliament’s harassment watchdog, the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme, concerning allegations of sexual harassment of three women.
Frome Times has requested an interview with the MP, but his office says he is unable to give interviews as a confidentiality agreement prohibits him from doing so.
New investigation
In a separate development, the MP is under investigation by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.
The parliamentary standards commissioner says she is investigating the MP for separate allegations that he broke the code of conduct for MPs on three counts – regarding ‘paid advocacy’, ‘declaration of an interest’ and registration of an interest under a category relating to ‘gifts, benefits and hospitality’ from UK sources.
