LOCAL musician Clive Melton will debut his album, Vanity at The Venue on Thursday 17th November with all proceeds going to the charity Action for Children.
Clive, a well known local musician and retired teacher, made the album in Bath over the past 12 months with his friend, Will Hitchings, who worked closely with the late Amy Winehouse as an on stage sound engineer. Will also remixed and mastered the album, as well as playing bass.
“Will gave valuable advice on sound and content,” says Clive. “So, I gave him a co-production credit too!” All the other musicians on the album are friends or family. Many are full time musicians who were delighted to give their time to support Clive and play on the album. These include viola player, Lizz Lipscombe, Simon Grimes, The Spoonful, Jane Taylor and Jim Melton, Clive’s brother, from the influential 1970s post punk band The Soft Boys, on harmonica and percussion. Some of these people will be appearing with Clive at the launch.
Other brilliant local musicians are standing in for those who can’t, including well known violinist, Jo Harvey. Clive’s friends at The Venue, Toby and Lark are letting him use the bar for free. The first half of the evening will be given over to the musicians who are backing Clive, playing some of their own songs, followed by a talk from Sal Steeple of Action For Children on the work of the charity. The remainder of the evening will be Clive debuting his album live.
This event is part of Clive’s ongoing commitment to support the work of Action for Children. In October, Clive and two friends completed the sponsored ByteNight ‘sleep out’, in the centre of Bristol and raised over £1,000. As well as there being some great music on tap, the evening will be a lot of fun and, hopefully, raise a lot of money for the charity.
The even starts at 8pm. Entrance is a £5 donation.
