TWO local Olympians have been welcomed home from Tokyo. Emily Diamond from Frome reached two relay finals while Kate French from Chapmanslade won gold in the modern pentathlon.
Emily was part of the GB teams for both the women’s 4x400m relay and the first ever 4x400m mixed relay.
Emily told Frome Times she was ‘really pleased’ with her performance, which saw the women’s relay team – Emily, Laviai Nielsen, Zoey Clark and Nicole Yeargin – run the third fastest time in British history.
Kate French won gold in the modern pentathlon which comprises five different elements of fencing, freestyle swimming (200m), equestrian show jumping, and combined event of pistol shooting and running.
“I don’t know what just happened, I can’t really believe it right now,” said Kate after her win.”
