A ‘tender and moving story written by a Frome mum diagnosed with terminal bowel and liver cancer, for her daughters, has been published as a book.
Only One of Me … A Love Letter from Mum and A Love Letter from Dad has been written by Lisa Wells from Frome.
Diagnosed with terminal bowel and liver cancer in December 2017, Lisa has since dedicated her time and energy fundraising, not only to leave a legacy for her two young daughters, but also to support others in her situation.
To this end, Lisa joined forces with local children’s author Michelle Robinson, to write a book aimed at children who may be faced with the loss of a parent.
The result is Only One of Me – a tender and moving illustrated story which serves both as a love letter to Lisa’s own daughters and a testament to the unwavering strength of parental love and the support networks we all turn to in the face of loss.
All author and illustrator royalties will go to two of Lisa’s chosen charities; We Hear You (WHY), a Frome-based charity that provides free professional counselling services for anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer or another life-threatening condition; and Mummy’s Star, the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting women and their families affected by cancer during pregnancy.
The book is available to buy at Hunting Raven Books in Frome. Manager, Tina Gaisford-Waller said, “We simply had to get behind this beautiful book. It is of course moving and thoughtful, but what surprised me was just how positive and practical it is. It really would be a lifeline for any family dealing with terminal illness or the death of a parent or close family member.
“We have been so impressed by Lisa’s selflessness and courage throughout her illness. We would like to add to her efforts by donating 100% of the profits from the sale of Only One of Me at Hunting Raven Books to WHY and Mummy’s Star.”
