The annual month of fundraising known as Mad March, which is organised by local charity We Hear You, has come to an end with the total raised during March reaching an incredible £22,606
This will fund over 510 sessions of counselling for people affected by cancer or other life-threatening conditions who live in the local area.
The money has been raised in a variety of different ways including at coffee mornings, by skydiving, through raffles, bootcamps, an acoustic café, afternoon teas, half marathon running and even a local nightclub revival night!
Gemma Wilkes, fund-raising and communication manager said, “We are thrilled with how successful Mad March has been in 2017. The variety of events that took place this year has exceeded expectations and we’ve had support from so many local organisations and individuals for which we are enormously grateful. We didn’t quite hit our ambitious 700 session target which means that we will be working harder than ever to reach out into our communities and fund these much needed extra sessions”
Melissa Hillier, director of We Hear You said, “The need for the service we provide at We Hear You is continuing to grow, week on week. We don’t receive funding from the government or NHS and so the money raised during Mad March gives our annual fundraising target a massive boost.”
Fundraising by We Hear You doesn’t start and end in March but continues throughout the year. They have a series of challenge events that the public are welcome to take part in, all of which can be seen at www.wehearyou.org.uk/events/ and the team are always happy to talk to people who’d like to organise their own fundraising events too.
