PRIMARY school students and care home residents in Frome have been connecting with each other through a new project called The Happiness Hunt, run by Make the Sunshine CiC.
Rowden House has been partnered with St John’s CE (VA) First School and Critchill Court has been partnered with Trinity CofE VE First School. Each setting has been busy completing creative challenges for each other, ready to share and exchange boxes.
The project aims to connect residents and students through exploring the concept of happiness.
Students at both schools have been decorating their boxes, painting self-portraits and describing what makes them happy. They have also been writing recipes for what makes happiness.
Residents across both Somerset Care-run care homes have been busy preparing for students. Residents from Critchill Court have been sharing memories of listening to music from Elvis, Dolly Parton, Tom Jones and The Rolling Stones, reminding them of younger days and going out to dances. Residents have also been sharing with students a range of beautiful artwork and recitals of poems their parents used to read to them when they were children, as well setting their own challenges for students to complete. Geoff, from Rowden House is very keen on jokes and riddles and has set students a special challenge to uncover.
Louise Lappin-Cook director of Make the Sunshine said, “It’s been so lovely to see the residents and schools sharing such meaningful, fun and personal experiences and especially that they have already developed their own challenges for each other. We’ve been so overwhelmed by the thought and care put into the packages. One lady called Mary from Rowden House has knitted an individual gift for every student.”
Stephanie Myler, activities coordinator at Rowden House said, “Mary loves to knit and it makes her especially happy when she’s making something for someone else.”
Boxes are being exchanged this week ready for the next set of challenges and exchanges in a few weeks’ time.
