FROME Town saw a home defeat to Bridgwater Town in the Somerset Cup, going two-nil down.
The club reports, “The match saw us drop out of the Somerset cup with a 2-0 home defeat to Bridgwater, in a performance where the team didn’t really get going and faced a difficult challenge once they fell behind to two first-half goals.”
Manager Danny Greaves said, “Firstly I would like to apologise for the result. Although we made 5 changes, I think we had a side more than capable of winning the game.I think we played reasonably well first half, but far too often it broke down in the final third, with no end product through a shot on target or a cross. We unfortunately conceded through one long ball, and from a cross which we failed to deal with. It then becomes an uphill task in the second half, and for all our endeavour, we rarely troubled the keeper.”
On the season so far
Danny continued, “After a super start, we have gone a bit flat over the past few weeks. This happens, you are never going to go 40 weeks on top form, but we need to get back to where we were as quick as possible. We have no reason to be too disheartened. After 9 league games, we have lost one game and are in the top 4.
“Would we have taken that at the start of August, yes we would. Over pre season and in that first month of the season, the players were superb and gave the fans something to shout about.”
Staying together
Danny said, “When things aren’t going 100% it is then over to the fans to stay positive and get behind the players and give them a boost. If you do that, I guarantee you the group will repay you as this group of lads care and give everything in training and games.As I say, the support has been fantastic so far, and the players have proven they are certainly good enough individually and collectively.
“I’m sure we will have a positive season if we all stick together. Hopefully, as many of you as possible will be making the trip by coach or car down to Totton to give the boys all the support and make some noise, to help us get the points which will keep our strong start to the league campaign going.”
