MELLS Open Gardens is back on Sunday 11th June and 16 gardens will be open for the day in the village.
Organiser Rob Waller said, “Open Gardens is… strolling round a beautiful Somerset village with an invitation to visit private gardens of all sizes and styles. Chatting with garden owners and fellow visitors about their garden plans. Getting ideas for your own garden, or feeling smug that yours is as good or better. Teas and homemade cakes. It’s a lovely way to spend a Sunday.
“Sixteen gardens in historic Mells will be open to the public on Sunday 11th June from 11am to 5pm. Ranging from the extensive gardens of the historic Manor to the charming cottage gardens which abound in this interesting and picturesque village to west of Frome, this is a once in a year opportunity to explore behind the scenes. New this year are the extensive grounds of Tynts Hill House and the Old Rectory.
“Home-cooked lunches, drinks and cakes will be served in the Tithe Barn in Selwood Street as well as in the highly acclaimed Mells Café adjoining Mells Village Shop. A stall outside will be selling plants.
“Tickets with a map for Mells Open Gardens are available in advance and on the day from Mells Village Shop and Post Office, Woodlands End, Mells. The cost is £5, which raises funds for the community-run shop and café. They provide vital facilities for Mells and surrounding villages as well as serving as a social hub for visitors and residents alike.”
