A tree has been planted in Frome in memory of a local historian and publisher who died earlier this year.
The rowan tree was planted at Weylands green space in memory of Rose Heaword, who moved to Frome around the turn of the millennium and became involved in several local community groups.
She supported the Frome Society for Local Study, the Frome Writers Collective and Frome Museum, and regularly attended Frome Town Council meetings.
Until she lost her mobility, Rose was a familiar face in the town centre, often seen with her shopping trolley and walking stick, stopping to chat to people.
Her friend Simon Carpenter said, “She was a very kind and thoughtful person, always willing to help others and provide moral support in any way she could.
“Towards the end of her life and with limited mobility, she was only able to live independently, because of the fantastic help she received from dedicated local carers and friends.”
He said the rowan tree was a fitting memorial to Rose.
“The rowan tree, like Rose, will continue to give, especially in the autumn and winter months, with its changing autumn colours and bright red berries.”
“Rowan trees are part of the ‘rose’ family, so it is very appropriate on this occasion as a memorial tree.”
