THE Merlin Theatre has celebrated the official opening of its newly refurbished foyer and toilets with a socially distanced thank you evening to just some of the organisations and individuals involved in the project.
The theatre report, “Over 50 people were involved in painting, building, cleaning, creating, refurbishing and even a little gardening! The main work was carried out by the Frome Town Rotary who, over a period of 6-8 weeks, gave up their precious time to paint and build.
“Paint was supplied by The Rose Garden fine paints, new signage created by South West Street Clothing, with Merlin volunteers and Frome College staff also helping in various ways to create the beautiful new space. Photographs of past shows taken by Dave Merritt grace the walls to complete the look.
“The Merlin gratefully received a grant from Frome Town Council for the toilets, with a Frome Lottery grant and a donation from regular users Frome Drama Club to cover material costs.”
Director Claudia Pepler is absolutely thrilled with the new foyer. She said, “‘It was looking very tired, with decorating and repairs completed as and when we could afford it, or indeed have the time to close the theatre to carry out such a job. It was a bit of a jumbly mess, but now looks cohesive, contemporary, welcoming and clean! We are so lucky to have such a fantastic caring community with so many volunteers helping to make our town such a special place to live.’
The Merlin is having a busy time with the Frome Festival with many events outdoors in the ECOS amphitheatre, but Claudia insists that you come inside to have a look, and of course buy a drink or an ice cream in the new foyer. All shows can be booked on line.
