Following the rapturous reception of its recent event Funk from the Far North, Frome Jazz Club is bringing another mighty fusion of folk and funk to town for Frome Festival – and this time going even further afield.
On Sunday 9th July, “The Whole World Round” stars London-based violinist and trumpeter Nathan Mansfield, whose musical associations range from the modern jazz of Maurizio Minardi through the gypsy jazz of Cordes du Roi to the Moroccan Oud band Karama. The band will be playing music from Brittany, Cornwall, France, Galicia, Greece, America, Canada, Venezuela, Ireland, Scotland, medieval Jewish Spain, and Renaissance England – all with a jazz and funk twist.
Nathan will be appearing with Keith Harrison-Broninski (piano), Chris Jones (double bass) and Eddie Jones-West (drums). The event starts at noon at The Cornerhouse (1 Christchurch Street East, Frome, Somerset BA11 1QA – telephone 01373 472042). As for all Frome Jazz Club events, entry is free, children are welcome, and food is available.
Note that this event was programmed after production of the Frome Festival brochure so it is not necessary to buy tickets from the Festival box office. However, Frome Jazz Club events are usually standing room only, so the organisers advise early arrival or booking a table in advance directly with the pub.
