A SPACE to help people with their mental health has launched at The Good Heart, Frome’s community centre for kindness, to enable residents to find out more about what mental health support is available to them.
The first session of the Wellbeing Café was on Friday 24th November and, going forward, will take place on every second and fourth Friday of the month from 10am to 11.30am.
It is organised by Open Mental Health Somerset, an alliance of local voluntary organisations, the NHS and people with lived experience of mental health.
“Our aim is to provide a relaxing drop-in space for those aged over 18-years-old with free hot drinks and cakes where the community can find out more about Open Mental Health Somerset and what it can offer you,” says Bo Bowman-Shaw, an Open Mental Health champion for Frome.
“We offer a range of specialist services to provide round-the-clock mental health support to adults in Somerset.
“If you, or someone you know, is experiencing difficulties with their mental health, we are here to help. Open Mental Health offers support 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure that adults living in Somerset and struggling with poor mental health can access the right support at the right time.”
One resident who attended the session said, “I popped in to The Good Heart Wellbeing Cafe as I saw a sign for Open Mental Health and wanted to find out more about it. It is so refreshing to see people come together with the willingness to find ways to help, especially providing support to the Frome community. Thank you.”
Another resident said, “I didn’t know about Open Mental Health Somerset until I came to the café after seeing the sign and some posters around town. It was really helpful to find out how people can self-refer.”
The next Wellbeing Café sessions will take place on Fridays 8th and 22nd December at 10am to 11.30am.
“If you need to speak to someone please contact our team at Mindline Somerset any time of the day, any day of the week locally on 01823 276892 or freephone 0800 138 1692,” says Bo.
“Mindline Live Web Chat is available every day from 8pm to 11pm or you can email: support@openmentalhealth.org.uk”
The Good Heart is based at 7 Palmer Street, BA11 1DS.
