A new, greener and more efficient boiler has been installed at Frome’s swimming pool to ensure the water temperature remains within industry guidelines.
During the changeover, the pool at the leisure centre on Princess Ann Road remained open, but operated at a lower-than-usual temperature.
“The old boiler, which had undergone numerous repairs, had reached the end of its lifespan and Fusion has taken action to ensure the pool is fit for purpose for the local community,” said a spokesperson for Fusion Lifestyle, which manages the centre.
While the pool remained in use during the works, Swim School sessions were cancelled to ensure Fusion continued to “adhere to industry guidelines for children’s swimming lessons.”
The cancellation raised concerns among parents, who complained after a series of disruptions in the past – including last year, when the pool was completely closed due to another boiler issue.
Parents contacted local MP Anna Sabine with concerns that the ongoing disruption could affect their children’s wellbeing and development. In response, the MP met with senior managers from Fusion to demand answers about persistent issues at the centre. This follows a previous meeting she held with Fusion and Somerset Council earlier this year to address residents’ complaints about cleanliness and reliability at the facility.

A spokesperson for the leisure centre said, “Swim School parents have been updated, accounts have been credited for missed sessions, and the rest of July’s lessons will be free of charge.
“Swim School members also have free access to casual swim sessions as part of their membership, and the new boiler means the pool will be fully operational for the summer holidays.”
Fusion added that other improvements have also been completed, including new poolside lighting, painting, and repairs, ensuring the centre is ready to welcome both new and returning visitors.
