Frome Community Education welcomes another two new tutors at the start of this Autumn term with courses booking now and starting from 23rd September. The new tutors will considerably expand the range of courses offered.
Helena Softley will lead ‘Dancing For Wellbeing and Joy’ for five weeks on a Wednesday afternoon, Frome Commed’s first dance class since pre-Covid days! Helena will teach a wide variety of dance styles to an ever-changing eclectic mix of music, leading the class in easy-to-follow routines, whilst also offering high and low impact options (and even encouraging some creativity at times!)
Helena says “My classes really are suitable for all abilities, and will leave you with a smile on your face and a spring in your step!”
Harriet Derrioz will offer two new five-week literature-based courses on Friday mornings. ‘Macbeth – Misogyny, Magic and Macabre in the Court of King James’ promises to leave you knowing the play in expert detail and able to apply your knowledge to understand and enjoy more of Shakespeare than ever before.
‘Five Contemporary Novels and Their Classic Inspirations’ will explore classic literature including Jane Eyre, Little Women, David Copperfield, and Hamlet (so far!) and the contemporary novels they have inspired. Harriet has worked in publishing, bookselling and teaching both in the UK and abroad and is an avid reader and writer. She believes that fostering the love and understanding of words and stories is life-enriching for everyone and looks forward to sharing her love of words with you.
There is also an abundance of new courses on offer from Frome Commed’s regular tutors. Catherine Beale returns with a one-day workshop on ‘Monet’s Water Lilies in Watercolour’ and another on ‘Atmospheric Coasts in Watercolour’. David Lassman is offering ‘A Social History of Britain in the 1960s and 70s’, ‘Myths and Legends of Ancient Britain’ and ‘Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece’. In addition, he is also offering ‘Popular Music – A Social History’ and two one-day workshops on a Saturday on ‘Famous Frome – Film and TV Locations’ and ‘In the Footsteps of Christina Rosetti’. Graham Burgess will introduce ‘Philosophy – Finding Meaning in Life’ and promises to deliver the kind of philosophy that is ‘exciting, experiential and full of wonder’.
Frome Community Education was founded in 2011 to provide classes for adults who like to learn for pleasure. It is a not-for-profit, Community Interest Company, run by volunteers. This Autumn term it is seeking to run 48 weekly courses and eight one-day workshops – some from as little as £18.
