A children’s cookery school based in Frome has recently celebrated it’s 1st birthday.
Children between the ages of three and 10 years gathered together for a special party hosted by Munchkins Cookery Club owner Katy Harris, with “funny face” cracker decorating, cup cake making as well as a special cookery certificate for each child that attends the classes.
The Cookery School (based at Meadowside Farm Café) was set up last year by Mum Katy Harris after realising there was a real gap in the market for a children’s cookery club that was fun and educational.
Katy said, “I work as a chef in my mother’s café and have always cooked with my children who are eight and six. Every time my children have friends round for tea I cook with them and realised I was rather good at it, that’s when Munchkins cookery Club was formed!
“I aim to show children (and parents) that cooking healthy meals can be quick, inexpensive, easy and more importantly FUN.
“My classes are very hands on and I try to combine traditional cooking methods with more unusual things to make. Over the last year we have made bread, scones, Moroccan veggie burgers, fruit sorbet, Sushi, breakfast muffins to name a few!
“My classes are educational and the children all sit down together at the end of the class to eat what they have made. I’m enormously proud of the children who come to class and they absolutely love it.”
Jack Pounds, who attends Munchkins every week said, “I love coming to cookery club. I get to cook interesting food, have a laugh with my friends and try new things. It’s great fun.”
Katy plans to expand her cookery classes next year to accommodate toddlers and run some classes for teenagers. For more information please call Katy on 07585 308944 or visit www.facebook.com/munchkinscookeryfrome
