FROME Heritage Museum is hosting a major exhibition to celebrate 100 years of Frome College.
Frome County School was set up in September 1921 and so is about to commemorate 100 years of survival, progress and success. During that time, it has been variously called Frome County School, Frome Grammar School, Frome Community College and Frome College, but it still stands proudly on its original site in Bath Road and is the only senior school in the town.
To help mark this anniversary, Frome Heritage Museum is holding a major exhibition from August 4th to September 24th. Using items from the collections and others generously donated or loaned by local people, the museum can display over 200 photos, documents, programmes, magazines, and even uniforms and sports equipment covering the entire span of the College’s history.
Trustee Barry Edwards says, “We know that hundreds of local people either attended the school or have relatives who did. This will be a marvellous opportunity to wander down memory lane and rediscover the proud history of this vibrant establishment. There are souvenirs from every decade of the last 100 years, and there will even be an opportunity for visitors to identify names and other details in our photographs.”
The exhibition will be open from 10 am till 2 pm on Tuesdays – Saturdays. Admission is free, though donations are always welcome.
If members of the public would like to give to the museum their own mementoes of school life for safe keeping and for the enlightenment of future generations, please speak to one of the stewards or phone 454611 during opening hours.
