Museum’s 60th anniversary open day to seek new volunteers

l-r Cllr Dawn Denton, Caroline Waldron, Angela Pater, Mayor Mark Dorrington , Chair Michael Maggs, Brian Marshall and Michelle Hylands

Volunteers are being sought to support a range of roles at Frome Museum as it marks six decades of sharing the town’s history.

Frome Museum is hosting an open day on Saturday 24th October to welcome new helpers and showcase its behind-the-scenes work.

The museum is run entirely by a group of over 50 volunteers. Throughout the open day, volunteers will be on hand to talk about what is involved in the museum, including exhibitions, children’s activities, reception, archives, collections, events, outreach, marketing, fundraising, research, copywriting, catalogue, IT and trustee activities.

The museum has developed significantly in recent years and is currently welcoming record numbers of visitors. However, more volunteers are needed to help cover the wide range of activities and to make it possible to undertake more ambitious projects.

Chair of trustees Michael Maggs said, “Let’s have a chat about what interests you. We welcome not only long-term volunteers but those who might like to join us behind the scenes just for a limited time, for example to work on a specific personal or community-interest project. There are opportunities to help both in the museum and also from home, at times convenient to you. Detailed local or historical knowledge isn’t necessary, though if you have some, that’s great! Why not come and join us?”

The open day will take place at the museum, 1 North Parade, on Saturday 24th October from 11am to 3pm.

Museum general opening times are Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 3pm, and on Independent Market Sundays. Entry to the museum and the exhibition is free.

The Open Day forms part of a series of celebrations marking the museum’s first six decades.

The 60th Anniversary Exhibition runs until 6th December and traces the museum’s development from its early days on Church Steps, to the museum’s move to premises in Wine Street before its eventual arrival in its current home in North Parade

Healing You Ltd has been created by local Bach Flower & Reiki Practitioner Kirsty Wells, following her own experience of living with persistent physical pain and becoming increasingly interested in the relationship between our emotional, energetic and physical experiences.

“Over time, I became fascinated by the connection between our emotions, our energy and the way we experience our bodies,” said Kirsty.
