Frome Heritage Museum is open again for the 2018 season.
The museum is at the bottom of North Parade by the bridge and is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am – 2pm from March to November, and on Independent Market Sundays.
There are several new attractions, but one is a display in the Museum’s Cabinet of Curiosity of a collection of fossils and minerals from 11 year-old Frome schoolboy Daniel Hopkins, who attends Springmead School in Beckington.
Simon Carpenter, volunteer curator at Frome Museum says, “Daniel’s display of curiosities is fabulous. It includes a mixture of natural treasures including a fossil coral, amber, sharks’ teeth and some great ammonites from the Dorset coast.”
The Cabinet of Curiosity is a display area for the use of members of the public who collect natural history objects. It provides the opportunity to display their treasures for one month in the museum.
It is an attractive and secure space and the museum will help you put the display together. All people need to do is get in contact and offer some objects. You can leave your contact details at the museum in person or contact the museum by phone on 01373 454611.
The museum is reliant on donations and they hope that visitors will make a contribution when they visit. School groups and society groups are welcome throughout the year by appointment.
