Frome Stars 39 Chippenham 2 35
With almost half of Stars, sponsored by Dennis Maps, not able to play, we knew we had to pull something out of the bag. The first quarter started off with some weak play from Stars who weren’t playing at their full potential. This meant that Chippenham were ahead and took the first quarter, 8-7.
Sticking to our guns in terms of combinations on court, we carried on fighting into the second quarter. With shooters taking some unfortunate shots and our defence finding it difficult to intercept the feeds into Chippenham’s Goal Shooter, we did not have an ideal performance, coming away at half time 18-10 down.
Half time coach Lucy Clark gave the team a good pep talk and lots of encouragement to pick up their game for the second half, as there was still potential in sight. Stars took on the advice and with Sophie Woolley moving to the other end of the court to shoot, Stars put up the fight they needed to. This worked as we score five unanswered goals, and then ten in row! Goal Attack Georgia Cox found her shooting eye, along with fellow shooter Woolley. Through court we saw a huge increase in interceptions left right and centre from Sophie Cox, Emma Guy and Molly White, forcing Chippenham to make error after error. This was a great quarter for Stars turning the tables and coming away with a third quarter score of 30-22 to Stars.
In the last quarter, Kathy Dredge, Alice Millard and Molly made the perfect trio in defence, marking exceptionally and getting tips and turnover to a tense game. An incredible comeback for Stars, coming away with the win of 39-35. Player of the match: Sophie Cox whilst Players’ player and Coaches’ Player was Alice Millard. Thanks to Alice Baker for subbing.
Frome Diamonds 30 TNC 30
The first quarter proved a challenge for Diamonds, sponsored by Dennis Maps, when TNC brought out their best team and play.
With a determined effort by Diamonds, constantly getting interceptions in the D and some amazing shooting, although the TNC defenders were rather tall, the end of the first quarter saw Diamonds drawing 8-all. The second quarter proved a lot harder and more straining on Diamonds, as TNC just came out that little bit stronger, ending the quarter with a with a score of 16-13.
As a team, we were more determined than ever and brought it back to a rather tight 22-21, leaving the end of the 3rd quarter with only one goal in it! With the biggest push by Diamonds ever, nail-biting match play happening and Diamonds coming out fighting. The score alternated between the two teams, and Diamonds led by two goals at one point. No one knew who would win! Amazing shooting by Georgie Southwell and Janie Bullus meant the TNC defence were put through their paces, whilst the Frome defence gave 100% effort.
The game with a well-deserved tie and either would have been disappointed to lose. Player Of the Match was Janie Bullus for some phenomenal shooting. Players’ Player was George Southwell for some excellent shooting and all-round play, whilst Rosie McMahon picked up the Captain’s pick for her amazing play and support whilst off court.
