A NATIONAL care watchdog has given a Frome care home its seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising the caring and attentive team members.
The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Care UK’s Rossetti House, on Welshmill Lane, an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.
The report illustrated the high quality of care and kindness shown by team members, with the inspectors noting there was a “relaxed and friendly atmosphere” across the home, with residents “laughing, joking and talking with staff” regularly.
This was furthered by feedback from a resident who commented, “It’s friendly here, a nice atmosphere. It never feels like too much trouble for the staff.”
This praise was reflected in the team members at the home, who the report highlighted spoke fondly of the residents they care for.
A team member said, “I love getting to know residents and families. We have a good giggle with people, and we have a laugh.”
The report highlighted how the team at Rossetti House prioritised the need to preserve residents’ independence and privacy as much as possible, for instance at mealtimes and when moving about the home.
One resident said, “I remember noticing when I first came in, how good the team are at making sure our privacy is maintained.”
The report went on to praise the wide variety of events and activities available at the care home, which are designed to “develop and maintain relationships to avoid social insolation” while ensuring they are “socially and culturally relevant” to the residents. These included events organised with a nearby school and the local church, visits by therapy pets and petting zoo, and attending local allotment societies. As one resident summed up, “There’s a quite a bit going on.”
The report noted that activities are tailored to residents’ passions and their individual needs. For example, residents with sight and hearing loss are able to enjoy the same activities planned for other residents by team members “adapting communication to meet their needs.”
The report went on to praise the leadership of the home, who the inspectors found to have created a “positive and person-centred culture” at Rossetti House. Team members spoke fondly of the home’s leadership, with one member saying, “I’ve blossomed since I came to work at Rossetti House. I’ve always been really well supported by the management team.”
Phil Vale, general manager at Rossetti House, said, “I am incredibly proud of everyone here at Rossetti House, and to lead such a welcoming, caring and determined team. Our ‘good’ rating is testament to everyone’s hard work and the high-quality care we provide residents each and every day.
“We are committed to ensuring all residents receive a personalised and tailored approach to care, in a dignified, professional and loving manner. Our ethos is to help residents to continue to live active and fulfilling lives and this remains at the forefront of everything we do.
“We are all thrilled to have received this official praise from the national inspectors and look forward to celebrating with the residents soon.”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Rossetti House incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been designed to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
