OAKVILLE Care Centre in Frome has launched a new range of natural shampoo bars and soaps, using natural ingredients. Included in the range are products made by local company Sinceris.
Oakville Care Centre, which opened in Frome in 1996, offers a wide range of products from daily living products to specialist treatments.
The new range of handmade soaps and shampoo bars are ethically-made, using natural ingredients and also helping to combat excess plastic waste. The range of Sinceris products are made in Trowbridge, by Alf Haywood.
He explained, “Sinceris is a hobby of mine that has turned into wanting to make ethical products after learning about the dangers of chemicals used in commercial soaps and shampoo.
“I started with a soap-making course – learning that commercial soaps are bad for your skin, featuring preservatives from the paraban family that have been linked to breast cancer. I wanted to use less synthetic ingredients and more natural, sustainable ones.
“I hope that businesses will follow suit in stopping the use of harmful chemicals in their products. It’s great to see that big names such as Body Shop have banned the use of some substances and make products more ethical and therefore safer for people to use.
“The new shampoo bars that can be found at Oakville are my own recipe. I found recipes online, I didn’t like them. Mine are made predominately with coconut oil and other added oils and make the hair softer and healthier without using the harmful products like Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. Like many other hand made soaps, I leave in the naturally occurring Glycerine that is so good for your skin.
“I frequently sell my products at the market in the Cheese and Grain, where Oakville Care Centre saw the products and then decided to sell them. The customers are loving them and are always curious to hear the stories of how they are made and the risks behind using commercial products.”
