Frome Stars 41, Holt Blue 43
The first quarter saw Stars, sponsored by Dennis Maps, play at their A game, securing the lead. In the second one, Stars were faced with Holt’s tallest player, in at keeper. It was no match for Sophie Wooley though as she popped in shots and worked effortlessly with Georgia Cox. The defensive trio of Sheri Pleasants, Alice Millard and Kathy Dredge were also gelling nicely, however Millard finished the quarter with pulled muscles and the score was getting close.
The third ruffled our feathers to say the least. With some unfortunate umpiring calls, Stars were under pressure. and suddenly Wooley hits the floor with an ankle injury. Amelia Pratten returned to the court, with Pleasants taking on the GD role against a nifty Holt GA.
With the score at 34-34 going into the last quarter, interceptions were being made by mid court, and the shooting duo Hannah Dredge and G.Cox were under attack. It didn’t stop them making interceptions and tips. However we could not find our feet and so just lost out, losing by the small margin of 2 goals. Player of the Match, Players’ Player and Coaches’ Pick went to Sophie Cox, for an outstanding all-round performance. She shared the Players’ Player choice with her sister Georgia.
Frome Hearts 41 KSM 19
Hearts were buzzing for this game as a win would push them back into the top half of the table. Great team spirit and positivism proved vital in the game, as every team member put a lot of effort in either on or off the court.
The first quarter was the settling quarter, with Mia Quick making her comeback for Hearts at WD. Both sets of players were finding their rhythm down court, but Hearts were the ones making the most of their opportunities as they opened up a 11-7 lead. Hearts, who are sponsored by Dennis Maps, were then asked to increase their lead by a further 4 goals which they did comfortably. The trio of Mia, Tracy Carter and Ellie Bennett controlled the ball down court ,making the most of the pocket areas. This allowed the shooting pair of Saffron and Ness Gaunt to move nicely around the D, to create passing opportunities into them. Hearts increased their lead to 23-13. Fresh legs brought on Maddie Kerbey replacing Mia at WD and Hearts continued positively, with all players playing a incredible part in the win as they increased their lead
Unfortunately some miss timed passes in the D, led to Hearts missing out on further shooting chances; but they were happy with the result, which takes them to 4th place in the table, with one game to go before the Christmas break. Thanks to Lauren for the amazing support from the sidelines. Player of the Match went to Ellie Bennett, whilst the Players’ Player went to Maddie Kerbey. The coaches awarded their pick to Ellie Bennett and Tracey Carter.
