Frome Medical Practice has announced the appointment of two new nurse practitioners at their surgery in Enos Way.
Claire Smart started her new job in June, whilst Anna McLaughlin has just joined the team.
Both nurse practitioners arrive at the practice with an enormous amount of experience. Anna McLaughlin carried out her medical training at Birmingham University before moving to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington where she worked in the Accident & Emergency department. Anna continued to gain experience working in A&E, firstly in Auckland New Zealand and latterly at the RUH in Bath.
“The skills that I have gained working in specialist A&E departments have been invaluable,’ says Anna. ‘However, whilst I will always have my experience of having worked in A&E, I am now very much looking forward to working in general practice where I am back working in the community, enjoying more continuity with patients, as well as the greater variation of work. These are early days, but I have to say that both patients and everyone here at the practice has made me most welcome.”
Claire Smart carried out her training in Portsmouth and has spent much of her career working in the community before more recently moving to general practice. Claire brings with her a specialist interest in respiratory diseases.
“It is great to be working as part of the team here,’ says Claire. ‘The patients have been fantastic and for me it is important to be working at an organisation that is very much at the heart of the community.”
Dr Andy Miller, a GP partner at the practice said, “The appointment of both Anna and Claire is very much part of our development programme, as we seek to build upon and improve our patient connect appointments system and at the same time bring together a team of GPs, nurse practitioners and other medical practitioners for our patients that really is second to none. Everyone at the practice here wishes both Anna and Claire every success with their careers at the Frome Medical Practice.”
