OUTDOOR activities are now underway at Frome Field 2 Fork’s new community growing and education centre.
Edventure: Frome explain, “This project was brought to life with the support of Sustainable Frome, including a £500 grant awarded in September 2020. The team have also partnered with Future Shed Frome (part of Edventure: Frome) to run a GreenGym on Sundays until the 18th of July, which opens up a new way for people to get involved with creating this community garden.
“Activities and projects are being created together with the community. These include soil preparation, creating no dig vegetable beds, sowing seeds, planting, weeding, pruning, digging up brambles and hedgerow harvesting. The team run regular garden volunteer days on Tuesday mornings and Sunday afternoons and in future there will be horticultural therapy sessions, as well as practical workshops and training courses.
“Frome Field 2 Fork is all about supporting you to gain skills in growing and eating local fruits, vegetables and herbs. The current environmental and health concerns have made many of us focus more on local food and the importance of connection with our community. The transformational process of creating a community garden enables us to make this happen together; while nourishing the body and spirit.
Elise Wach from Frome Field 2 Fork commented, “My own experience has shown me that working outside in nature and with a mix of people can be immensely therapeutic and transformative. We are so grateful for this grant from Sustainable Frome, plus the support we’ve had from Frome Town Council and Future Shed Frome. It will enable us to start this new community garden here in Frome and for more people to experience this magic.”
Edventure: Frome add, “Join us to grow food and friendships! Frome Field 2 Fork is growing into a community of adults and children, disabled and non- disabled individuals, gaining knowledge through the practical experience of working the land to produce food.
“We meet on Tuesdays, 10am-1pm for Growing Food and Friendships sessions and on Sundays, 2-5pm for Green Gym sessions. At all our sessions we connect over growing food and the joy of being on the land. They’re free, safe and supportive. For more information, keep up to date via www.facebook.com/ FromeField2Fork/.
Another way you can support this project is to donate any of the following: Outdoor benches and chairs, gardening tools, wood and other raw materials, seeds and plants, a trailer (with driver) for occasional weekend missions, your time!
