FROME-based Marston Foods has been awarded a new contract by Aldi supermarket, resulting in new jobs for the company.
The new contract to supply the supermarket’s lemon tart, chocolate tart, and panna cotta twin pack to stores nationwide has already resulted in 15 new jobs for the community.
Marston began supplying Aldi with three festive desserts in Christmas 2017, and expects this longer-term deal to result in significant profit growth.
Specifically, the partnership will enable the business to invest in new equipment to meet the increase in orders, while remaining true to its handmade roots, including a faster hand depositor to improve efficiency when measuring quantities.
Leona McDonald, commercial manager at Marston Foods said, “Our relationship with Aldi is truly collaborative. It allows us to push ourselves to deliver the high quality, hand crafted creations in a streamlined and efficient way.
“We are a sizeable employer in a small town and with Aldi’s support, we have the confidence to further invest in the business and our employees, while still maintaining the quality ingredients and craftmanship our customers expect.”
Marston Foods launched in 2010 and creates handmade, artisanal desserts from local ingredients. It currently employs 75 members of staff at its site in Frome.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi said, “We’re committed to supporting British businesses and regularly travel the country to find suppliers like Marston Foods that are truly passionate about their products. These hand-crafted dessert lines are already proving popular and we look forward to working together in the years to come.”
