Local people have launched three communications projects that show why helping the planet also benefits our health.
Edventure launched a first-of-its-kind course with local participants called Comms for Change in partnership with Green & Healthy Frome in October last year.
Participants on the course heard from a number of communications professionals about how communications can be used to encourage positive actions that help people and planet, and how to think about using these ideas here in Frome.
The three projects they have launched are the Spring into Action group, the Join the Dots group and the Earth Hour team.
“Edventure empowers people to turn ideas into solutions through their courses, helping to shape a greener, fairer future for our town,” explained Colin Atkinson, a member of Edventure. “Green & Healthy Frome focuses on actions that benefit people, planet and pocket and believes that together, we can create a brighter future.
“As the course comes to a close at the end of March, we take a look at what local participants have been up to in their three groups.”
‘Spring into Action’ group
Colin said, “This group focused on promoting volunteering in Frome as a means of enriching yourself as well as community projects such as Everyone Needs Pockets, Frome Community Bike Project and Frome Families for the Future. The team has worked together to make three short reels for Instagram and Facebook featuring interviews with local volunteers (and Lego animations!) to further bring to life Green & Healthy Frome’s initiatives.”
A participant from an Everyone Needs Pockets event at the Cheese and Grain, Jill Philips, said, “It’s such a good feeling to help people learn new skills and it keeps clothes in circulation instead of landfill.”
Mike Grenville from the Frome Community Bike Project said, “Cycle Together means more people cycling, which is great for health and enjoyment.”
Felix Clark, who is a Frome Families for the Future litter picker and took part in the Dippy litter pick, said, “The best thing about volunteering is feeling good about myself, picking up litter and helping nature.”
The team hopes to create a ripple effect, where people feel empowered to explore their passions and take part in local initiatives that are striving to help create a greener, healthier community.
‘Join the Dots’ group
Colin said, “This group took on the exciting challenge of increasing opportunities for people in the town to access different parts of Green & Healthy Frome. They soon realised there was a need to produce a comprehensive leaflet that brought all the projects together in one cohesive place. They worked closely with the Green & Healthy Frome team, project leads and the incredible designer Jenna Herman, who brought their creative vision to life in a colourful and engaging style.”
The ‘Earth Hour’ team
Colin said, “The team will be hosting a pop-up party at Frome Library on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th March, from 2pm to 4pm, where they will be playing a fun new game that introduces the new Green & Healthy Sprites, gets ideas flowing and starts a conversation about green and healthy actions people can take for themselves in Frome. The players then choose to pledge to join in as part of this year’s Earth Hour on Saturday 22nd March.”
If you feel inspired, pop by Frome Library on 18th or 19th March to pick up a leaflet, see the Lego displays that featured in the groups’ social media reels and play the new game.
