YOU can now book in to free weekly Green Gym sessions starting on Sunday 13th June, 2-5pm at Whitemill Community Garden.
Frome Field 2 Fork and Future Shed: Frome (part of Edventure: Frome) have partnered up to put on six weekly Green Gym Sunday sessions in June and July, and if they are popular the team will find a way for them to continue!
Edventure: Frome explain, “At Green Gym sessions, groups of 12 will be led through a gentle warm up and cool down, and in between enjoy a full workout, suited to all levels of fitness and at a safe social distance. Typical activities will include sowing seeds, planting, pruning, creating no-dig veg beds, digging up brambles, constructing new garden features, hedgerow harvesting and building bug hotels.
“This is a way that you can support Frome Field 2 Fork in their new enterprise, grow local food, take part in conservation and get fit. Plus it won’t be all exercise – the group will take a break in the middle to have a chat and refreshment – though you’ll need to bring your own for now due to Covid-19 restrictions.
“Another way you can support Frome’s new Green Gym and Field 2 Fork is by donating garden tools. Donations of tools and equipment can be dropped off at Edventure, The Welsh Mill Hub, Park Hill Drive, Frome, BA11 2LE on 9:30-11:30 on Wednesday mornings and 11-12 on Thursday mornings. For any questions about this or the event, email fromefield2fork@gmail.com or phone Caroline on 07857437608.”
Sylvie who has been receiving the tools said, “It’s lovely to see people collecting their old tools, dusting them off and donating them – the tools will have a new lease of life at the Green Gym!”
The Green Gym idea started as a post on a live community ideas board, which is collecting ideas from across the community for new activities that people would like to see in our town – all on the theme of creating a greener and healthier future.
Hannah Burd, who is setting up the Future Shed at Edventure: Frome said, “We could see that the idea was popular as it had a lot of upvotes on the ideas board. We have a really precious opportunity, as part of the Green & Healthy Future for Frome programme to support these ideas to take root in our town.
“The Green Gym will be a great antidote to all those winter months of lockdown! Find out more about what we’re up to by following us on facebook: www.facebook.com/FutureShedFrome.”
The programme is a partnership between Edventure: Frome, Frome Medical Practice and Frome Town Council. It is funded by The National Lottery’s Community Fund. If you have ideas of your own, the board is still open and you can post them here: https://yrpri.org/group/4935
