Ride Kids Ride challenge returns to Frome

Young people in Frome are being invited to dust off their helmets and get moving as the Lions Club of Frome prepares to host its annual ‘Ride Kids Ride’ event.

Taking place on Sunday 20th September from 12.30pm to 4.30pm at The Old Showfield on Rodden Road, the community event invites children to come along with family and friends to see how many laps they can complete in 30 minutes.

Participants are welcome to complete the challenge on bicycles, scooters or skateboards.

To cater for all ages and abilities, two courses will be available: a shorter lap around the football field for primary school-aged children and a longer lap covering the whole field, where four laps equal 5km, for middle school-aged children.

Every participant will be rewarded with a medal. In addition, each completed lap earns riders a ticket for a free raffle, with a chance to win a £200 voucher towards a new bike of their choice.

Entry is £2 per child. A BBQ and refreshments will be available on the day. Parking is provided nearby at Frome Football Club and Frome Medical Practice, with toilet facilities available courtesy of the Cricket Club.

For more details, contact allison.rumming@fromelions.org.uk or visit the Frome Lions Club website at fromelions.org.uk.

Concerns have been raised by residents living near a Frome school over the enforcement of a traffic scheme, with reports of congestion, speeding, blocked driveways and verbal abuse. People living near Oakfield Academy are calling for greater enforcement of the Safer School Streets scheme, which they say is failing to prevent traffic problems during school drop-off and pick-up times. The scheme was made permanent last September following an 18-month trial.
