A new pottery class on Wednesday evenings, run by Craig Eyles, will take place at Frome Community Pottery, starting on 25th September at 7pm.
After starting a new class on Tuesday mornings last year, the Pottery (based at Frome College) is now able to offer classes on four evenings per week (Monday to Thursday) and also four days per week (Tuesday to Friday).
“The variety is wider than ever,” said Malcolm Lloyd, who manages the pottery on behalf of Frome Community Education. “We have four really experienced tutors in Russell Coates, Hiro Takahashi, Andrew Eddleston and Craig Eyles – and we even have a super reserve in Roz Dunwell – and we are now able to offer one more evening class. We will probably stop there because we could run out of storage space for all the work the students will produce!”
“Craig was new to Frome Community Pottery last year but quickly established a class on Tuesday mornings, and as a Frome-based potter, the demand for another class from Craig, in the evenings, came along. It now means that there are evening classes on four nights per week.”
‘The Pottery is a rare beast in terms of adult education these days, with very few places in the entire country able to offer such a facility. With the support of Frome College, we have been able to maintain the classes as a self-funding enterprise under the auspices of Frome Community Education. Without their support the future would have been very grim, but we are now able to expand the programme, which is great news, and the future looks much brighter.”
Classes start again on Monday 23rd September (as do all Frome Community Education classes.) Enrol online at www.fromecommed.org.uk or at The Cheese and Grain box office or by phoning 01373 455420.
There are special “taster” classes for people new to pottery on Wednesday 18th or Saturday 21st September – both from 10 am to 1 pm – at just £10 each.
