INNER Wheel Frome’s President for the past year, Yvonne Covill, handed over to the incoming President, Pam Brewster, at a meeting of the club on Tuesday 12th July.
Club correspondent Renee Cole reports, “The last year, with Yvonne at the helm, has been a very successful year with a lot of money raised for ‘School in a Bag’, ‘Dorothy House’ and many more charities. A lot of food, wine, fun and laughter was had by everyone whilst doing so.
“The year included the 80th birthday of the Inner Wheel Club of Frome which was formed on the 13th May 1936 by 12 wives of Frome Rotary members. Mrs Armstrong was the first President and the meetings were held at the George Hotel and cost one shilling per head for afternoon tea, and the yearly subscription was five shillings. The ladies always wore a hat and gloves.
“The club held a celebration at the Bath Castle Hotel with an afternoon tea, but the ladies did not wear hats and gloves, and the costs are now rather different! The year to come will be a busy year starting off with a bang with a member of the club, Kate Lewis, holding a district Rally when she takes over as District Chairman.”
