A LOCAL Frome designer/illustrator has reinvented the traditional cloth book and created ‘The Nursery Times’, a unique crinkly cloth book for babies and children with special needs.
Jo Joof, alongside fellow illustrator, Nicola Moore, are working together to create ‘Nursery Times’ with 10 headline titles already in production. Nursery Times is a little crinkly cloth book made to look like a little newspaper, with special crinkly-filled pages with the option to create personalised issues.
Both Jo and Nic have children of their own, so they are never short of inspiration for their work, always finding fun, new and interesting ideas.
Jo said, “We have been working very hard printing and making the books by hand. We have had lots of lovely compliments and support, and sold a whopping 34 copies in December alone.
“We set up our own website and have also managed to get a batch of books manufactured by a great company in China. It’s such a unique and exciting product and now we just need to open the doors to the competitive retail market.
“It’s only our first few weeks with our stock and after knocking on a few doors, we have successfully got three titles available for sale at The Hunting Raven. It’s such a great opportunity to sell in a beautiful traditional book shop in Frome’s picturesque Cheap Street. I am very grateful to them for this opportunity.
“It’s our time to shine. It’s such a great feeling to develop a project from start to finish and see it there in a shop window. Nursery Times has so much potential, so if there’s any investors out there who want to join us and take it to the next level – then please get in touch.
“My advice to anyone else out there with an idea is don’t dither – do it today, otherwise tomorrow someone will take the opportunity and pass by you. If one door closes then don’t give up, another door will soon open. Follow your dreams.”
