An exciting new initiative has been organised by Oakfield Academy’s PE department and British Cycling.
Selected pupils were invited to experience Cyclo Cross, which involves off road cycling challenges on the school field. Bikes and safety helmets were provided for the pupils, who all agreed it was an amazing experience.
Cyclo cross races typically take place in the autumn and winter, and consist of many laps of a short course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles, requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount. The sport is currently very popular in Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
