Plans that could see the upper floor or the former NatWest building in the Market Place developed into two flats have been objected to by Frome Town Council and Frome Civic Society, which say a full planning application is necessary.
The NatWest branch at 4 Market Place closed in May due to declining usage as customers increasingly turned to online and telephone banking. In response, Salmon Planning Company submitted a change of use application in July to transform the building’s upper floor into two mixed-use flats.
Both Frome Town Council and the Frome Civic Society have raised concerns about the application. The Town Council argues that the site, a listed building located in the town’s conservation area, warrants a more detailed full planning application.
The Frome Civic Society has also called for a full planning application to be submitted, adding that the current proposal fails to address potential noise issues from the neighbouring Granary venue, located at the rear of the George Hotel, which could affect future residents of the proposed flats.
The deadline for determining the change of use application is Wednesday 28th August.
