A FROME Bed and Breakfast is celebrating after winning Channel 4’s reality TV show ‘Three in a Bed.’
The Old Bath Arms took the winners’ plaque after they saw off competition from No. 1 Sallyport B&B in Berwick, Northumberland and Babbling Brook in Shurton, Somerset.
The TV programme followed the group of three bed and breakfast owners as they took turns to stay a night in each other’s b&b before deciding how much they would pay for a stay in each establishment.
The Old Bath Arms was announced as the winner after they received the biggest percentage of its usual going rates.
Owner Richard Findlay said, “It is fantastic to have won the show and it is testament to the hard work of the whole team. We really are like a family and we work so hard to achieve the high levels of customer service that we offer.
“The whole experience was fantastic and we enjoyed every second of it and it is great to have that winner’s plaque.
“Our success can only be a good thing in the town as the show highlighted how great Frome is. Hopefully, we will see many visitors off the back of this.”
One of the highlights of the show was when The Old Bath Arms owner Richard got into a dispute with another contestant about how he cooked an egg.
Following the incident Richard exacted some revenge when he stayed at their B&B when he cheekily requested two poached eggs, with one well done – a move that Channel 4 producers were keen to highlight in the show. The egg storyline has caused a stir for some locals in Frome with many taking the time to share their thoughts with Richard.
He added, “The egg story has really been picked up by the locals who constantly make egg-related jokes and I even had a rubber egg thrown at me! On the whole, everyone seems to agree with my argument and says the other contestant was wrong.”
The Frome B&B’s appearance on Channel 4 caused a huge surge on their website with a 1,000% increase in visits to www.theoldbatharms.co.uk during the show.
