RESIDENTS and staff at the Old Rectory Care Home in Nunney celebrated the opening of a new patio garden at the home that will provide more space for relaxation and leisure activities.
Wanting to provide an area for the residents to explore interests such as gardening and give them somewhere to admire the view of Nunney Castle, staff at the care home decided to renovate part of the home’s grounds into a patio garden.
Registered manager at the Old Rectory, Lyn Boon said, “The patio has been a long-awaited area where our residents are able to go and enjoy the serenity of the village of Nunney.
“The residents are all very excited about the patio and enjoy spending time in the garden. They love to look at the views and enjoy the birds landing for food.
“It has really proved to be of great benefit to our residents and they are really enjoying the fresh air.”
To celebrate the opening of the patio garden, staff and residents threw a party with cakes and bubbly. “The highlights of the day were the fantastic cakes made by the cook and the residents enjoyed seeing all the flowers that they had helped plant, budding and flowering.”
The new patio garden will be put to good use in the coming weeks with the planting of vegetables and herbs, a barbecue for the residents and a visit from some animals not normally found in a care home.
“A member of staff will be bringing two ponies in for the residents to groom, as one resident has requested this.”
